My Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR that I’ve owned since 10/2006 is on it’s way out. So I’m in the market for new TV.
Requirements:
Around $1000
50”range
240Hz refresh would be nice.
Don’t want 3D
Is 4K worth it right now? It doesn’t seem like there’s not a lot of 4K content.
Are the Samsung curved screens more than a gimmick?

Nobody sits close enough to the tv for it to curve around them so basically you feel like you're watching a bent TV.

By the looks of it, you get this:
4k, 240hz, Not Vizio.
Pick 2, or pay $1500.
If you’re okay with Vizio, there you go. Otherwise, go onto Amazon and check the right boxes.

Get a Samsung TV. Their quality is incredible, and curved TVs are awesome, but unless you like just blowing money.
Honestly and truly, Ive got 2 in my house, a 46” smart tv and a smaller 20 or small 30”, no problems whatsoever. Sony TVs are nice if you want the PS4 features for no console playing, but from a quality to price comparison, I would go for Samsung first.
Sure, I work for one of the regions largest Samsung residential dealers, but we sell more than just Samsung. We’ve had plenty of busted tvs come back from every brand, Samsung is great about warranty fixes, other brands give us lots of trouble. Only brand I cant say Ive seen a warranty claim on is Sunbrite, but youre probably not looking to put a Sunbrite in your living room. Sony TVs do look great and have great features, but a TV is a TV unless you want some special feature. I would go for Samsung first just based on support alone. No brand is perfect, plenty of Samsungs have had problems, but the fixes are cheap or covered under warranty. My 46” was from the local recycling center even, just needed a replacement power supply for $55. Easily a $700 TV.

OH man, we had one of those old CRT HD screens. Holy shit they are heavy.

Sharp Aquos for picture quality, Vizio for price. That’s essentially all I know. Don’t cheap out, or you'll be replacing it sooner rather than later. I have a ten-year-old Westinghouse that's still holding up, though it's frustratingly only 720i.

whatever you do get this hdmi cable for ultimate viewing. Its worth it to spend as much on a cable as a TV.
Also its called Vodka.
$698.99

I just got the 43” version of this a few weeks ago. This was bought to replace a fairly old 32” Samsung that started to flicker. The Sony’s upscale everything and have a very clear picture. There is a huge difference in picture quality between the two even though I haven’t seen any 4k source material on it. IMO the 4k was worth it as I don’t plan on replacing this one until it dies and by then there will likely be plenty of 4k source material.

How much vodka do you have to drink before you think that is a good idea? The name is appropriate, but really, $700 for a cable? To transmit a digital signal 5 feet?
I mean, if you’re in the market for that I’ve got an even better one. It is slightly more at $850, but it’s called Champagne, so you know it’s worth it.
